Jim's Topics for Seminars/Retreats
  Seminar Themes Men’s Retreats
Jim’s seminars focus on one or several of the following themes. He is equally at home with all ages--college through grandparents. These themes, and more, are presented with wit, compassion, and a Biblical foundation.
  • Men and women in midlife crisis
  • Understanding the seasons of life
  • Building a lasting marriage
  • Divorce prevention
  • Secrets for saving a marriage
  • Handling family crisis
  • Caring for aging parents
  • Healing a dysfunctional childhood
  • Helping teens mature
  • Healthy self-esteem
  • Career changes
  • Grandparenting
  • Relationships with adult children
  • Friendship skills
  • Sexual harassment
  • Grief, death, and dying
  • Overcoming marital sexual problems

One of Jim’s favorite activities is to lead men’s retreats. Following is a letter from a man who attended a retreat:

Thank you for the wonderful men’s retreat. Men who were habitually tightlipped and stoic suddenly became hurting, sensitive beings.

A lot of credit must go to you. Your transparent sharing made it all possible. I did not expect to get below the surface in our small group of reserved and uncommunicative men. But I was wrong!

As my small group opened up, we were surprised to find a man estranged from his son; another whose grown daughter refuses to speak to him; a successful man crippled emotionally as a child who couldn’t contemplate marriage; a man whose wife suffered from menopausal depression; a negative, critical man damaged in childhood.

Jim, thank you again for your ministry to the men in my group.

Jim uses humor, his own vulnerability, and Scripture to target men’s issues. He helps men feel comfortable to face troubling areas seldom discussed with other men such as:

  • Sexual temptation
  • Marriage disillusionment
  • Lack of connection with their father
  • Job insecurities
  • Inability to connect with their children
  • Need for male friends who truly understand
